A New Season, A New Blog

It’s game week.

Only four and a half more days of work. Four and a half more days before you can dig your faded, worn (but hopefully not too stained), lucky MSU t-shirt out of the closet, pack up the cooler and grill, and point the car toward East Lansing, which still, oddly, feels like home, even though you haven’t been there on a Wednesday in five or ten or fifteen years.

Well, except for that one really nice Wednesday back in June when you stopped in town and hit up Peanut Barrel for lunch on your way back to the office. But I digress…

Four and a half days until you walk across campus to your favorite tailgating spot and greet old buddies you haven’t seen since last November, back when the Spartans beat Purdue to run their Big Ten record to an improbable 6-1 and we all allowed our thoughts to wander to what was possible, what might happen in Happy Valley.

It didn’t, of course. But the disappointment, if you felt any with MSU’s best football season in a decade, will wash away as you crack open a beverage and settle in with your tailgate crew to debate Cousins v. Nichol, Caper v. Baker v. Ray, and Greg Jones v. the whole doggone Big Ten.

Football is back, and Spartan Blog will be here to chronicle the 2009 season from the fan’s perspective.

What will you get? Well, I’ll hunt down some pertinent information on Spartan opponents so you don’t have to, and I’ll pass it along in one neat little post each Wednesday or Thursday. I’ll try to help ease those long, cubicle-bound Friday afternoons with a game preview to whet your appetite for gameday. Game wraps, hopefully to include some original photography, will be posted Saturday evening or Sunday morning, and I’ll share good links to all things Spartan throughout the week. Beyond those elements, there will be plenty of opinion scattered through the week — after all, this is a sports blog.

And, of course, there will be plenty of hoops talk when basketball season rolls around. In fact, although football and basketball will dominate the discussion, everything Green and White will be fair game. I hope you’ll find it all useful and marginally entertaining enough to make SpartanBlog.net a regular stop, and engaging enough that you’ll want to share your comments and feedback.

So welcome to Spartan Blog. Kick back and stay a while.

Four and a half days. Tick tock.

If the first week is any indication, this is going to be a fantastic blog.

Thanks Mike. Glad you stopped by. Keep up the great work at your site — if yesterday is any indication, I think Navy is in for a very good season.
